On Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 (2:30-6:30 p.m.), the “Passi di Luce” Theater Company takes us back to the glories of the Risorgimento past with the characters who were protagonists of the Garibaldi movement in Castelfiorentino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A journey through the Risorgimento, with the protagonists interpreting the Garibaldi epic, the “Camicie Rosse” and Giuseppe Garibaldi’s historic visit to Castelfiorentino in August 1867. On Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 (2:30-6:30 p.m.), the Villa Garibaldi in Petrazzi will once again open its doors thanks to the “Passi di Luce” Theater Company, which will welcome visitors by offering a series of theatrical settings (with flesh-and-blood characters and “presences”) that perfectly recreate the atmosphere of the period, discovering an ancient mansion perfectly preserved for more than a hundred and fifty years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Organized by the theater company in collaboration with the property and the patronage of the Municipality of Castelfiorentino, the initiative is part of a larger project promoted by the National Association of “Houses of Memory” to enhance throughout Italy on this weekend the places that preserve the memory of great personalities of the past. A “National Day of the Homes of Famous People,” therefore, to which the Villa of Petrazzi, which thanks to the Municipality of Castelfiorentino has become part of the national network of Houses of Memory, fully belongs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As will be recalled, Giuseppe Garibaldi visited Castelfiorentino in the summer of 1867 while he was organizing an expedition of volunteers against the Papal State, which would be wrecked a few months later at Mentana. At the time, the owner of the Villa was Tommaso Giannini, who had distinguished himself in the recruiting campaign during the Third War of Independence (1866), and thus represented-as did Mayor Antonio Del Pela-a solid point of reference for the Garibaldi movement in the area. The Villa still presents itself today with all the characteristics of the historic home, having preserved intact the atmosphere of the period: its 19th-century furnishings, a truly valuable collection of memorabilia of various types and even some documents, including a letter that Giuseppe Garibaldi wrote on June 6, 1876 from the island of Caprera to thank “Amici di Castelfiorentino” for a donation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I am pleased to be able to participate,” observes Leonardo Fabiani, current owner of the Villa (grandson of the last descendant of the Tinti family, which had acquired the property from Tommaso Giannini), “in these two nationally organized days of the houses of memory, giving the public the opportunity to benefit from what has been treasured for so long and, thanks to the “Passi di Luce” theater company, to be able to immerse themselves in the 19th-century atmosphere that distinguishes Villa Tinti Fabiani as the G. Garibaldi house of memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Another beautiful initiative to discover this ancient mansion,” observes Deputy Mayor, Claudia Centi, “which some associations in Castelfiorentino are working to enhance, also for tourism purposes, and which is part of the path started by the Municipal Administration a few years ago that led to its inclusion in the national network of the Houses of Memory. Therefore, I thank the “Passi di Luce” Theater Company, which together with the “Amici della Lirica Umberto Bors\u00f2” association have been working towards this goal, and the current owner, Leonardo Fabiani, for his willingness. I am sure that these initiatives will help to raise awareness and draw attention to this Villa that has now become a part, in its own right, of the historical and cultural heritage of our territory.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Villa of Petrazzi was visited three years ago by the great-granddaughter of the “hero of two worlds,” Annita Garibaldi Jallet, who was impressed by the love and care with which the owners who succeeded Tommaso Giannini (starting with Onorato Tinti and ending with the current one, Leonardo Fabiani) have been able to preserve it all these years. Next weekend’s initiative follows a full calendar of events that have featured the Villa in recent months: the guided tour on Oct. 8-9, 2022, and the “concert in the living room” by the Friends of Opera U.
