Three generations of Italian cyclists who took part in the Tour de France at different times. A ceremony to honour in the best way possible the reception in Castelfiorentino of the Grand D\u00e9part trophy, which will remain on display at the Oratory of San Carlo from Monday 8 to Wednesday 10 January. But also an all-round confrontation between the protagonists, in which there will be much to tell about the various experiences that have marked the Italian presence at the “Grande Boucle” Tour, in view of the next edition that will start from Italy for the first time (with the first stage in Florence) on 29 June 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the programme of the initiative that will take place on Monday 8 October (9:00 p.m.) at the Ridotto del Popolo in Castelfiorentino, the land that not only gave birth to Gino Bartali’s father, but that at the Tour de France two years ago had the honour for the first time of having two fellow citizens among the protagonists: Alberto Bettiol and Kristian Sbaragli.
And it will be precisely Alberto Bettiol, one of the champions of the “latest generation”, who will be confronted on Monday evening with other protagonists of the past, such as Simone Borgheresi and Massimo Podenzana (former professionals present at the Tour de France in 1998, won by Pantani), or Roberto Poggiali (former professional in the 1960s\/70s, helmsman to Felice Gimondi and Francesco Moser), in an evening directed by journalist Irene Puccioni, a former professional cyclist from Castelfiorentino, protagonist at the Tour de France in 2001 and 2003.
Organised by the Castelfiorentino Cycling Society with the patronage of the Municipality, the Metropolitan City of Florence, Banca Cambiano 1884 Spa and the Fondazione Teatro del Popolo, the evening will be opened by the Mayor, Alessio Falorni, the Metropolitan City’s sports delegate, Nicola Armentano, and municipal councillor Federico Fioravanti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are happy and proud – underlines the Mayor, Alessio Falorni – to host the Tour trophy in Castelfiorentino, which in 2022 gave us the great satisfaction of having two of our fellow citizens like Bettiol and Sbaragli among the protagonists, confirming the great work done by our cycling club, which even in the past has been able to create the right conditions to facilitate the spread of this sport among young people. The departure of the Tour from Florence – in June – represents an important showcase for the whole of Tuscany, an opportunity that we have a duty to exploit in the best possible way. With this in mind, we gladly accepted the idea of organising this evening at the Ridotto, in conjunction with the display of the Grand D\u00e9part Trophy”‘”.
“It is an honour for me,” remarks Federico Fioravanti, “to have had the opportunity to collaborate in the organisation of this event, thanks to my contacts and friendships with the professionals who have represented at various times a point of reference in my sporting activity as a cyclist”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Grand D\u00e9part Trophy will be on display at the San Carlo Oratory on Monday 8th, Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th with the following opening hours: 4:30-7:00 p.m. (free admission).<\/p>\n\n\n
