An appeal to donate blood. It is the one addressed to citizens by the Mayor, Francesca Giannì, who also holds the role of President of the Empolese Valdarno Valdelsa Health Society, on the occasion of ‘Bici in Città’, a cycle-touristic event organised by the Castelfiorentino Avis with the patronage of the Municipality, scheduled in Castelfiorentino on Sunday 11 May, from 9.00 a.m. onwards.

An event that every year, in the height of the spring season, is first and foremost dedicated to lovers of ‘two wheels’, who nevertheless prefer flat routes and slow, gentle pedalling, suitable for both adults and children. But it is also an appointment that represents an opportunity for the Castelfiorentino Avis to raise awareness among citizens about a noble, safe gesture that can often help save lives.

‘Donating blood,’ observes the mayor, Francesca Giannì, ’is a beautiful choice, made with the heart and great empathy towards our neighbour, who can receive help from us to continue living, as is often the case for those who need continuous transfusions, or to survive in cases of emergency. It is a choice that costs nothing and is made in total safety at the Castelfiorentino Transfusion Centre. It is therefore with great pleasure that I would like to make an appeal to the citizens, and in particular to young people, to do it, because they will not regret it: on the contrary, like all good deeds, they will receive an inner enrichment from it’.

The meeting for the ‘Bici in città’ is set for 9.00 a.m. in Piazza Gramsci for registration and at 10.30 a.m. the start is scheduled, with a large group ride through the city streets. At 11.15 a.m. there will be a short stop with refreshments, and after about half an hour the second route will begin, with the finish line scheduled for 12.15 p.m. in Piazza Gramsci, where the prize-giving ceremony will take place.

The event is organised in collaboration with Prociv Arci, Rav, and Banca Cambiano 1884 spa. Special thanks to Macelleria Enzo.
