From Friday 8 May, the “Stanza Rossa” (Via IV Novembre) will host the “Corti: Visioni di genere” film series, a valuable showcase for Italian genre cinema and its filmmakers, where, over three Fridays (8, 15 and 29 May, at 9.15 p.m.), there will be the chance to watch five Italian genre short films (ranging from horror to thriller, from crime to fantasy, etc.).
The festival, promoted by the “ Angelo Azzurro” and curated by Ilaria Monfardini as part of the Valdelsa Film Festival, is now in its second year and once again offers the chance to meet the directors – often young filmmakers – who will be delighted to provide further details about their films and, following the screenings, to answer questions from the audience, who will rate the competing works each evening using a special evaluation form.
Fifteen short films (ranging in length from a minimum of six to a maximum of 38 minutes) will be in the running during the festival. On the closing night, Friday 29 May, they will be judged by a jury, which will award prizes for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Actor. The jury comprises Claudia Geminiani (Chair), Jaures Baldeschi (Artistic Director of the “Angelo Azzurro” Film Club), Franco Spina (Councillor for Culture), Marco Incerti Zambelli, Tullio Masoni, Lorenzo Di Falco, Sandro Toncelli and Paolo Vecchi.
Here are the titles of the short films and their directors:
- Friday 8 May: “Se Dici Undici” by Alessandro Benna, “Fabiana” by Piero Calvarese, “Levitico 18.19” by Sacha Del Sole, “Crimson Park Serenade” by Irene Jones Baruffetti, “Eden” by Gabriele Lenzi.
- Friday 15 May: “La Scelta di Brenda” by Gianni Carbotti, “Nebbia” by Lisa Rovo Di Rella, “L’Ombra del Padre” by David Marignani, “Adesso Basta!” by Davide Cancila, “Metus” by Alberto Gelmi.
- Friday 29 May: “Ricordati di sorridere sempre” by Simone Arrighi, “Bitter Epiphany” by Alberto Bogo, “Run Death Run” by Cristiano Ciccotti, “Scomparire” by Daniele Nicolosi, “Una Voce” by Andrea Andolina
The festival is sponsored by the Municipality of Castelfiorentino.
“Following last year’s success”, notes the Councillor for Culture, Franco Spina, “the film festival dedicated to emerging filmmakers returns. Through their short films, they will have the opportunity to make themselves known and appreciated by an ever-wider audience, thanks also to the truly commendable efforts of Ilaria Monfardini, who oversees the organisation and programming of the festival. “Whilst I feel honoured to be part of the Jury, I believe that these initiatives are good for Italian cinema and for that concept of widespread culture which, as a Municipal Administration, we are committed to supporting and preserving”.
“The Valdelsa Film Festival”, notes Jaures Baldeschi, artistic director of the “Angelo Azzurro” Film Society, “began as a showcase for independent Italian cinema. I am therefore truly delighted with this second edition – masterfully curated by Ilaria Monfardini – as it offers many young directors the opportunity to make a name for themselves and, above all, to showcase their work”.
The “Stanza Rossa” is located at Via IV Novembre 2/D. Admission €5. Booking recommended on +39 339 828 4720.
