The rediscovery of ancient folks traditions, the valorization of old pilgrim trails or typical local products are the principal themes of a series of open-air events which mainly take place in the warmer months, from March to October.
Ca*Stellare – Palio di Castelfiorentino
Castellare is an event, which takes place on the last weekend of June, in which the inhabitants of Castelfiorentino are divided in nine “Contrada” or district: Borgo, Cambiano, Dogana, Ferruzzino, Membrino, Petrazzi, Praticelli, Puppino and Santa Verdiana-Bastione. They are invited to deploy their creativity, skills and competitive spirit.
Via Francigena in Valdelsa
An appointment with history and nature, which presets a rich programme of excursion on foot, on two wheels and on horseback, theatre performances and Medieval games in the charming hillside village of Castelnuovo d’Elsa. A real journey into the past, to get to know and almost touch the atmosphere that reigned at the time. A project designed for the new generations, but also for those who want to know more about the ancient route: the possible itineraries, the daily life of pilgrims and much more.
CastelloFobia
CastelloFobia, the horror-themed itinerary that fascinates participants in the streets of the center of Castelfiorentino, with the aim of entertaining everybody on the evening of October 31st.
The event takes place in two moments: late afternoon and evening. The first part is dedicated to the little ones who, among the shops in the center and the food tracks set up for the occasion, enjoy receiving as many sweets as possible.
The second part dedicated to the great and brave children, winds its way through the dark alleys of the old town of Castelfiorentino.
Each year it is assigned a different theme that distinguishes the route with the countless and scary attractions that terrify the spectators during the walk.
Valdelsa River Trophy
A unique event of its kind, in the name of the biting, playful, irreverent spirit that has always characterized Tuscan people.
The “Valdelsa River Trophy” is the craziest river adventure in Tuscany, which comes to life in June with a descent on the Elsa River on craft boats, bizarre, funny and above all without engines.
Castellana Beer Festival e Street Food Festival
Two events that manage to combine the conviviality of an eno-gastronomic proposal made in Castelfiorentino with musical entertainment and craft stands and products of local companies, thus recreating a unique exchange environment where music and craftsmanship blend with the charm of street food and a carefully selected component of beverages.
Peace of Montaperti historical re-enactment
The historic Peace of Montaperti, signed November 23rd, 1260 in Castelfiorentino, temporarily put an end to the struggles between Guelphs and Ghibellines after the bloody battle of Montaperti, mentioned by Dante in the Divine Comedy.
Every year the city of Castelfiorentino remembers the event with a historical commemoration.
Agricolando
The Agricolando event is organized in a small hamlet of Castelfiorentino, born from the desire and passion of a group of people, with the aim of going back in time by giving a different meaning to the word agriculture.
With the passage of time, the progress and technology have totally changed agriculture, and they will try to go back to the origins to show especially to the youngest how the activities related to agriculture were carried out, with practical demonstrations of the old crafts of the past and of all activities related to Agriculture.
Traveling Carnival
A strictly “themed” Carnival, which every year chooses a character from the world of fantasy (from Pinocchio to Merlin the Wizard, from Harry Potter to the world of pirates and Peter Pan), to set up a series of shows, theatrical performances and itinerant actions in the historic center, in which children are the direct protagonists. This is the secret of the Carnival of Castelfiorentino, the Sunday event that anticipates “Shrove Tuesday”, and which usually starts in Kennedy Square and ends with a “grand finale” in Gramsci Square.
