The matches will take place from 15 to 18 July. The first phase of the project, organised by Prociv Arci (in partnership with the local council, ABC Basket, Avis and the “Neri Ferramosca” Association), is being run by young people.
Four evenings dedicated to a passion for basketball, marking the completion of the regeneration of the Via Galvani area. This is the first stage of “GenerAzione giovanile”, a project promoted by Prociv Arci in Castelfiorentino (in partnership with the local council, ABC Basket, Avis and the “Neri Ferramosca” Association), which will kick off on Wednesday 15 July with “hoopsXCastello”, a 3×3 basketball tournament scheduled to take place at the court on Via Galvani, near the “Puppino” Club.
The tournament will run for four consecutive days (until Saturday 18 July) across different categories, divided by age groups, with matches taking place from 6.00 pm onwards, including after dinner. On Friday 17 July, once the matches have finished (around 11.00 pm), there will also be musical entertainment featuring a DJ set. Throughout the evenings, the project’s partner organisations will set up information stands to raise their profile and encourage – through greater awareness – young people to take part in voluntary activities.
The “hoopsXCastello” initiative, which partly draws on the format of the “Stelle del Piazzale” event, marks, as we mentioned, the culmination of an urban regeneration project: this has taken the form of clearing up the surrounding green space and refurbishing the basketball court itself, thanks above all to the voluntary efforts of six young people (three from Prociv and three from ABC) : Dario Burgassi, Tommaso Barlabà, Damiano Valloreia, Tommaso Niccolini, Samuele Cipollini and Giacomo Ciulli, who also oversaw the planning of the event and its promotion via social media. Support with promotion and insurance-related formalities was also provided by the “Amici di Castello” association.
The “GenerAzione giovanile” project aims to involve young people in the regeneration and upkeep of public assets, revitalising run-down areas, promoting social inclusion and strengthening the sense of community.
“These evenings dedicated to basketball,” emphasises the Deputy Mayor responsible for Sport, Gianluca D’Alessio, “are not only a chance to get together and an opportunity for young people, but above all a tangible sign of their commitment to revitalising an area that needed care and attention. It is also an implicit invitation to their peers to reclaim the spaces in which they live with a sense of responsibility, participation and respect for the urban environment, perhaps drawing on the support of the many associations active in our area that have promoted this project. My thanks therefore go to all those who, in various capacities, have helped to bring it to fruition and will continue to support it in the coming months.”
The “GenerAzione giovanile” project was made possible thanks to the call for proposals “Siete presente. Young People and Associations, 2026 edition’, as part of the ‘Giovanisi – Spaces for Growth’ project promoted by Cesvot and funded by the Tuscany Region – Giovanisì, in agreement with the Department for Youth Policies and Universal Civil Service of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, with a contribution from the Cassa di Risparmio di San Miniato Foundation.
