Friday, October 9 (5:30 p.m.): A meeting with local organizations and presentations by professionals who will provide useful guidance to promote greater awareness of the importance of early diagnosis.

An evening dedicated to discussing the prevention of women’s cancers and promoting greater awareness of the importance of early diagnosis. These are the goals of the event scheduled for Friday, October 9 (5:30 p.m.), at the Be.Go. Museum in Castelfiorentino, as part of “Pink October”—the month dedicated to the prevention of these types of cancers and to showing support (including emotional support) for women facing the challenges of the disease.

The evening, which will be introduced by the Mayor of Castelfiorentino, Francesca Giannì (who also serves as President of SdS Empolese Valdarno Valdelsa) and by the Councilor responsible for social and health policies, Federica Parisi, will feature presentations by Francesca Martella (Director of the Women’s Center at Empoli Hospital) and Claudio Caponi (Representative of the ASTRO association). Alba Piacenti (representative of the ANT Foundation of Tuscany), Franco Pennuti (ETS), and Maria Celeste Esposto (representative of Endocare).

Representatives from the organizations that participated in the “Pink October 2026” project will also speak, starting with the “Scacciapensieri, It’s Always Pink October” initiative—funded and sponsored by the Castelfiorentino branch of Unicoop, the SPI CGIL Lega “Alvaro Bianchi,” and Auser Filo Argento. Through this initiative, dozens of women—working in groups or individually at home—created approximately 350 “scacciapensieri,” exquisite pink acrylic crafts (of various sizes and dimensions) that were used to decorate the town center and the main square of Castelfiorentino.

Also present will be representatives from the ANT Foundation, which has scheduled a series of screenings for thyroid and skin cancer (melanoma) in October, and from Astro, which has launched a fundraising campaign through the sale of T-shirts.

“Prevention,” note Mayor Francesca Giannì and Councilor for Social and Health Policies Federica Parisi, “has always been one of the most effective tools in the fight against cancer, particularly breast cancer. This is why it is important to raise public awareness so that people regularly participate in screening programs, enabling the early detection of the disease in its initial stages. It is also essential for those who must battle this disease every day to maintain an active approach, avoiding isolation and participating in community life. This year, thanks to the involvement of numerous organizations and dozens of women, we have succeeded in launching an initiative focused on social interaction and community engagement that benefits everyone, and in creating something truly beautiful in the center of Castelfiorentino.”
