The music of Antonio Vivaldi performed by the Orchestra del Maggio and conducted by Domenico Pierini, concertmaster and violin soloist of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. This is the programme of the concert that will take place in the evocative setting of the Sanctuary of Santa Verdiana in Castelfiorentino (FI) on Friday 10 May, at 9.00 p.m. (free admission, subject to availability).
The evening, which is sponsored by the Metropolitan City of Florence in collaboration with the Propositura di Santa Verdiana within the framework of the “Maggio diffuso” (86th Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Festival) will therefore feature one of Italy’s leading violinists, a true excellence in the field of music and also in concert performance.

Hailing from Livorno, Domenico Pierini was formerly first violin of Riccardo Muti and Claudio Abbado, and for more than twenty years a collaborator of Zubin Mehta, who wanted him with him from the very beginning. Since 1990 Maestro Domenico Pierini has been first violin of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra, and thanks to his skills since 2007 he has also founded the Chamber Orchestra, of which he is artistic director.
Friday evening’s programme offers the Symphony in B minor “Al Santo Sepolcro” (for string orchestra and basso continuo) and I Concerti delle Stagioni for violin and orchestra (4 concertos from the collection “Il Cimento dell’armonia e dell’inventione”).

The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra, one of the most famous and important orchestras internationally, was founded in 1928 by Vittorio Gui. In the course of its long and glorious artistic history, it has been conducted by practically all the world’s greatest conductors. Numerous 20th century composers such as Pizzetti, Hindemith, Richard Strauss, Mascagni, Stravinsky and Berio have conducted their compositions with the Orchestra del Maggio, often as world premieres. Music directors who succeeded Gui were Mario Rossi, Bruno Bartoletti, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Fabio Luisi and Daniele Gatti. Currently, the Orchestra’s Director Emeritus for Life is Maestro Zubin Mehta and the Principal Conductor is Maestro Daniele Gatti.
