A calendar of initiatives covering the whole of 2025, to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Italy’s Liberation from Nazi-Fascism in a renewed way. This is one of the objectives of the “Tavolo Memoria”, convened by the municipal administration on 3 February, involving the associations interested in enhancing the memory of the Resistance. A working method that the Councillor in charge of Memory, Marta Longaresi, in collaboration with the Councillor for Culture, Franco Spina, chose to initiate a constructive discussion on proposals, in order to coordinate the various initiatives in the best possible way and optimise the available resources, also gathering new ideas for the future.
The first activities have already been agreed upon. A calendar has in fact been drawn up with all the appointments (some twenty have been scheduled so far), and the Municipal Council has resolved to send – in agreement with the Unione dei Comuni Circondario Empolese Valdelsa – a sizeable delegation from Castelfiorentino for the trip to Austria from 7-12 May 2025, thanks also to a symbolic contribution of attendance fees donated by some municipal councillors. In particular, as many as eleven students will be leaving from Castelfiorentino, including six from the secondary school of the Istituto Comprensivo di Castelfiorentino and five from the Istituto Superiore “F. Enriques” of Castelfiorentino, as well as two teachers (one for each school) and two representatives of the Municipal Administration.
“A result that was made possible”, emphasises Councillor Marta Longaresi, “thanks to the contribution of the associations ANPI, Prociv Arci, SPI CGIL, Il Progresso, AVIS, AUSER and Sezione Soci Coop, which, in synergy with the schools and their directors, promoted and supported the participation of students in study trips and pilgrimages to the concentration camps, so that they could see with their own eyes the places of war and the tragedy of deportation. My thanks go to these first associations that have joined in, along with others that have already shown their willingness to contribute financially in the future for the same purposes”.
The Administration also offered its willingness to coordinate a fund-raising effort, again in the context of this first round table, for a plaque in memory of the Resistance, promoted by the associations present at the suggestion of some citizens. Any donations can be made to a special current account of the municipality. Finally, the events. Next week (Tuesday 25, at 10:30 a.m.) there will be a meeting at the “F. Enriques” Institute with Adelmo Cervi, promoted by the High School and the Comprensivo (in collaboration with ANPI and the patronage of the Municipality) in which the third classes of the “Bacci Ridolfi” school and the fifth classes of the ISIS “F. Enriques” will participate (repeated at the “I Praticelli” Club in the evening at 9:15 p.m., open to all citizens). This will be followed by a full calendar of initiatives, including those forming part of the project “The 119 volunteers of Freedom” that the Municipality has promoted for the 80th anniversary of the Liberation (realised with the contribution of the Regional Council in accordance with Regional Law no. 3/2024) and which in April will include a video of testimonies and an exhibition at the events space of the association “Il Progresso” (Corso Matteotti).
