Loving one’s land means cultivating the desire to reconstruct its past, living its present by planning its future. This is the theme of “Roots”, the theatrical performance by the Gat of Castelnuovo D’Elsa.
But what does it mean to search for one’s identity? It means to love the place where one was born, it is to appreciate what one is; it is to bring out and enhance the beauty of one’s territory; it is to give voice to the desire for culture, curiosity, wonder that one possesses; to reveal to the world the true essence of oneself, of one’s traditions, of one’s way of being, of one’s very life.
To rediscover that sense of belonging and that sense of the social of the past that is still alive in small towns.
The poetry and the will to tell that was experienced in years gone by at village vigils make us realise how much desire for life and peace everyone had inside.
It is a journey of history, poetry and indignation, which at that time said “we”! Not “me”.
