Fifteen short films and meetings with directors, a precious showcase for Italian genre cinema and its often young authors. This is the calling card of “Corti: visioni di genere”, a review promoted by the “Angelo Azzurro” Film Club and curated by Ilaria Monfardini, which kicks off at “La Stanza Rossa” as part of the Valdelsa Film Festival.
A festival divided into three evenings (every Wednesday, until 21 May) in each of which five short films of Italian genre cinema (from horror to thrillers, from detective to fantasy, etc.) will be screened and assessed by a jury and also by the audience present in the auditorium. The short films vary from a minimum of seven to a maximum of twenty-five minutes and at the end of all screenings there will be an opportunity to meet and get to know the directors, who, in addition to illustrating their works, will also answer questions and curiosities from the audience.
These are the names of the directors who will speak on the first evening: Federico Gori, Angelo Cannella, Loris Comelli, Irene Baruffetti, Emanuele Marchetto. Wednesday 14 May: Gianni Carbotti, Luigi Scarpa, Daniele and Emanuele Ricci, Federica Bertellotti, Samuele Breschi. Wednesday 21 May: Leonardo Barone, Davide Cancila, Francesco Tassara, Eugen Neagu, Andrea Gandossi.
At the end of the festival, a jury will award a prize to the best film, one to the best director, one to the best actress and one to the best actor. There will also be an audience prize, which each evening will fill out a ballot assigning a vote (from one to five) to each of the short films screened.
The jury is made up of the artistic director of the “Angelo Azzurro” Film Club, Jaures Baldeschi, the Councillor for Culture, Franco Spina, and film critics Paolo Vecchi, Tullio Masoni, Claudia Giminiani, Gualtiero De Santi, and Sandro Toncelli.
“I was delighted to accept the invitation to be part of this jury”, observes Culture Councillor Franco Spina, “not least because the municipal administration is seriously committed to supporting film culture in general and cultural initiatives like this one, which offer the opportunity to meet and engage with emerging filmmakers who wish to make themselves known and appreciated by an increasingly wide audience”.
“The Valdelsa Film Festival – observes the artistic director of the “Angelo Azzurro” Film Club, Jaures Baldeschi – was born as a review of independent Italian cinema, and resumes tonight after more than ten years. I am therefore truly happy with this edition – masterfully curated by Ilaria Monfardini – as it offers one more opportunity for the growth of film culture in our area”.
“La Stanza Rossa” is located in via IV Novembre 2D. Admission 5 euro. Reservation recommended at +39 339.8284720.
