The relationship between a couple and that between husband and wife, set in a daily reality of misunderstandings, petty squabbles, jealousies. All told in an irreverent, biting way, through essential gestures and biting irony, which tends to highlight above all the funny sides of the female character. This is the calling card of ‘completamente spettinato’ (completely dishevelled), a show by the Leghorn comedian Paolo Migone that on Saturday 21 June will open the open-air theatre review of Castelnuovo d’Elsa promoted by Gat, in the evocative setting of Piazza Santa Barbara (show starts at 9.30 pm).

A review ‘under the stars’ that for eight days (until Saturday 28 June) will present a different show every evening, alternating cabaret comedy (Paolo Migone made his name on “Zelig” back in 2000) with provincial ‘little stories’, comedies that dwell on family life, work, or even topical issues such as violence against women and organised crime.

The “stable company” of the Gat of Castelnuovo, in particular, presents “La sala d’attesa” (The Waiting Room) on Sunday 22 June, a production created entirely by women, which highlights the problem of gender violence with great respect and sensitivity. Monday 23, an evening dedicated to ‘Cazzotti’, an original show by Marco Azzurrini that recounts the forgotten vicissitudes of some old Pisan boxers. Then, on Tuesday 24, the story of three sisters told by the Compagnia ‘Passi di Luce’ in the show ‘Effetto Domino’ (Domino Effect), which highlights not only their character differences but also the skeletons in the cupboard of a common family. This will be followed on Wednesday 25 by ‘Nell’aldilà dell’Aldiquà’, a brilliant comedy in three acts by the Lato B company, and on Thursday 26 by ‘Lavorare tutti lavorare dentro’, a therapeutic stand-up comedy by Michele Tomai.

Dedicated to a great protagonist of the fight against organised crime, finally, the show on Friday 27 entitled ‘Amuninni. Storia d’amore e di mafia”, by and with Massimo Caponnetto. Conclusion of the festival on Saturday 28 June with another Gat production: ‘Uomini sull’orlo di una crisi di nervi’.

‘With this new summer review,’ observes the Councillor for Culture, Franco Spina, ‘the small and enchanting hillside village of Castelnuovo d’Elsa renews its role as the theatrical garrison of our town, rich as I have had the opportunity to recall in the past with comedians and storytellers. It is a living community, in which theatrical experience and training is particularly widespread, starting with young people. A fact that gives us hope, since theatre, by definition, opens minds, creates culture, democracy, beauty”.
