On Sunday 25 May (afternoon), eight Tuscan theatre companies will perform in the alleys and most picturesque corners of the upper historic centre, with prizes for the best shows.

Decadent noblemen and forgetful old men. Salutists and inveterate eaters. Dearly extinct and imaginary sick people. Also, unmentionable secrets and damsels in love, gossip and bickering. A not-to-be-missed sequence of actions and theatrical performances in the alleys, lanes and most suggestive corners of the old town centre will animate Sunday’s ‘grand finale’ of In/Canti e Banchi,” a street theatre festival scheduled in Castelfiorentino from 23 to 25 May.

A Sunday afternoon characterised by a marathon of ‘Corti teatrali’ (‘Corti Circuito’ is the title of the format, now in its third edition) in which no less than eight companies from all over Tuscany will take part, as part of a programme organised and coordinated by Teatro Castello

The shows will start at 4 p.m., with non-stop repeats until 7 p.m. when the award ceremony will be held in Piazza del Popolo for the best ones, which will be secretly evaluated in the morning at the Ridotto of the Theatre by a Jury composed of representatives of the companies of Castelfiorentino.

Passing through the arch of Via Tilli, it will be possible to come across the trio formed by Alberto Papa, Anna Amaducci and Michele Venturi with an excerpt from ‘Malato immaginario’, while in Piazza del Popolo, I Postumi Teatro will perform ‘Domani Cardio’, a short film on the eternal clash between our healthiest side and the always ‘hungry’ side. Further up, in front of the Municipality’s Registry Office, the Compagnia Unicorno of Empoli will present ‘Madre Silas’ an amusing and wacky encounter between a naive girl looking for answers about love and an expert in magic arts.

At the steps in Via Attavanti, Corte Tripoli Cinematografica will present ‘Invitation to dinner with a surprise’; the protagonist is a poor penniless count who thinks he can solve his problems this way. In front of the bell tower, along Via San Lorenzo, it will be possible to meet Rachele Rossi and Simone Cecchi who will be overwhelmed by a sequence of misunderstandings in their attempt to hide their ‘Indiscretions’, while the Compagnia del Molo will be hosted in a garden at the top of Via San Lorenzo with an amusing squabble between two elderly spouses both with a somewhat shaky memory (‘I am Herbert’).

An ethical drama (‘Come elefanti’) will be the theme of the show in Via Forese Adimari, where the Compagnia L’Anello will be grappling with the last wish of a dearly departed, while the Associazione il Gabbiano will perform ‘Il quinto fidanzato’ at the Piazzetta dell’olio, a hilarious performance featuring a man intent on hiding the job he is doing from his future son-in-law.

Grand Finale at 7 p.m. in Piazza del Popolo, where the top 3 winners chosen by the Jury will be awarded, all with amusing interruptions from the windows of the Town Hall.
