From March 4 to 8, a packed program to highlight the role of women in society and the defense of their rights.
Woman, Life, Freedom. It is around those key words that the program of Women’s Day in Castelfiorentino revolves, which after the restrictions of past years due to the pandemic returns with a full schedule of events, from March 4 to 8, 2023. It begins precisely Saturday, March 4, at the “Stanza Rossa” (Via IV Novembre 2/d) with “L’inferno dei vivi,” a photo-documentary with images, letters and stories from the former Volterra asylum, supplemented by the narrator’s voice of Valentina Chiarugi, curated by Emilio Del Lesto and Roberto Terzuoli of the “Giglio Rosso” Photography Group, in collaboration with the “Angelo Azzurro” Cinema Circle. Admission (20 people at a time) is in two shifts: at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. (reservations: 339.8284720 Jaures Baldeschi)
This is followed on Tuesday, March 7 (People’s Theater Redoubt, 9 p.m.) by a screening of the film “Holy Spider,” inspired by a true story: serial killer of prostitutes Saeed Hanaei. A film that focuses mainly on the machismo prevalent in contemporary Iran, and which at the 75th Cannes Film Festival awarded Zahra Amir Ebrahimi as best actress.
On Wednesday, March 8, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, an evening as per tradition at the Ridotto of the Teatro del Popolo (meeting at 4:45 p.m. Piazza Gramsci) where from 5 p.m. onwards Nadia Meacci (secretary of the SPI CGIL League), Mayor Alessio Falorni, and Giancarla Armano (president of the Coop members section) will speak on “Women’s languages to speak to the world.”
This will be followed by “Actions in color, songs and artistic expressions in freedom,” by the girls of the “F. Enriques” Institute, coordinated by Prof. Daniela Casagli. Modern music is planned (Eva Dei who will sing Noemi’s song “La borsa di una donna,” and Fiorella Mannoia’s “Combattente,” emphasizing the need to never give up and to fight to achieve one’s goals) and dance performances between modern, classical and contemporary ranging from the interpretation of a reflective woman (attentive to the nuances of her intimacy) to the courageous, combative one (a true “girl on fire”) and finally to the woman in love who, surrounded by the affection of her friends, lives her love story in joy and endures its end with a “Sorry.” On stage, dancers Ginevra Borriello, Martina Barbieri, Azzurra Pomerani, Chiara Bonetta, Alice Noto, Chiara Mazzoni, and Maria Cristina Giunti. Finally, a surprise at the beginning of the evening that we cannot reveal.
Finally, two testimonies are planned: an Iranian woman and an Afghan woman, who will tell about the daily life of women in their country. The evening will conclude with a performance by the “G. Verdi” Philharmonic of Castelfiorentino.
“In Castelfiorentino,” stresses the mayor, Alessio Falorni, “women have always distinguished themselves since the early 1900s in so many battles, from emancipation in labor to struggles for rights and to obtain real equality, economic, social and cultural. I am therefore pleased that every year this theme is addressed, projected into the present day, through the valuable contribution of the associations that on important occasions such as this never fails.”
“This program,” observes Nadia Meacci (SPI CGIL League secretary), “is the result of work carried out with a number of Castelfiorentino associations, with which we are very pleased. For the second time in the last six years, we have managed to put together a three-day program that examines various aspects of the world of women and more.”
The International Women’s Day is promoted by the SPI CGIL of Castelfiorentino (Women’s Coordination) under the patronage of the municipality and in collaboration with Unicoop Firenze (Castelfiorentino members section), Avis, Avo, Giglio Rosso Photographic Group, Prociv Arci, Auser, ANPI, Lilith Women’s Aid Center, “F. Enriques” Institute, “G. Verdi” Philharmonic of Castelfiorentino, “Angelo Azzurro” Cinema Club.
