Customs, traditions, precepts of the various religions around food. From the ban on eating pork to sacred respect for cows. From veganism to vegetarianism. Not to mention wine, about which completely opposite religious orientations revolve. This is the calling card of “At the Table with God”, a lesson-show by Don Andrea Bigalli and Leonardo Romanelli that will be staged at the Castelnuovo d’Elsa Theatre on Friday 28 March, at 9:30 p.m. (admission €12.00).

A theatrical performance on food and religions in which anecdotes, curiosities, forbidden foods and customs that are still current will be discussed. From the reasons that led some to ban pork from the tables of many peoples (and how this restriction gave rise to the possibility of making cured meats from goose) to the ban on eating beef, and then delving into issues such as the idea of veganism and vegetarianism. Space will also be reserved for wine, considered a sacred product for some religions and a forbidden drink for others.

Don Andrea Bigalli, parish priest of the Diocese of Florence, teaches at the Istituto Superiore di Scienze Religiose della Toscana. Leonardo Romanelli, writer and journalist, is a wine and food critic, an educator in the field of wine and food.
