Honesty, fairness and respect for the opponent. But also solidarity and concrete support for children in need. These are the values that from the very beginning have characterized the Riccardo Neri & Alessio Ferramosca “Memorial,” desired by the families of the two young soccer players who tragically died in the accident that occurred in 2006 at the Juventus sports center in Vinovo (TO), and which will take place this weekend with a noble objective: the proceeds of the entire event will in fact contribute to raising funds for charity in aid of “special” children in need of care. The best way, in short, to remember Riccardo and Alessio.
Now in its 17th year, the Memorial will be presented at a dinner scheduled for Friday evening (May 23, 8:15 p.m.) at the “Boscotondo” restaurant in Gambassi Terme (reservations: directly at the restaurant or 0571.629112, 335.290800, 338.7748533); during the evening, hosted by journalist Mario Tenerani, awards will also be presented to people who have distinguished themselves in the world of sports and sports journalism.
Scheduled for Friday through Sunday is the tournament in the stadiums of Gambassi Terme and Castelfiorentino, the latter of which was named in 2016 after Riccardo Neri, who as young as six years old had begun playing soccer in the youth ranks of Castelfiorentino.
Sunday, in particular, the finals will be played. In Gambassi Terme those for 9th and 7th place (beginning at 3 p.m.), the others in the stadium of Castelfiorentino (beginning at 4 p.m.), where at 7 p.m. the awards ceremony for all participating teams is scheduled. For the Municipal Administration of Castelfiorentino, the deputy mayor with responsibility for sports, Fabio Tinti, will speak.
“The Riccardo Neri and Alessio Ferramosca Memorial,” notes Deputy Mayor Fabio Tinti, “has always had a deep and broad meaning. It is a remembrance of two extraordinary boys and athletes who unfortunately left us too soon, with the reminder for everyone that tragedies like this must never happen again. It is a soccer tournament between teams from all over Italy, exalting the healthy values of sport and competition.
It is associationism in its noblest form, namely that of helping others and, in this specific case, ‘’special’’ children in need of care. Strong and big thanks to the Neri and Ferramosca family and the entire Riccardo Neri & Alessio Ferramosca Onlus Association, which for almost twenty years has been achieving outstanding results in promoting social and charitable initiatives.”
The “Memorial” Riccardo Neri & Alessio Ferramosca enjoys the patronage of the municipalities of Castelfiorentino, Gambassi Terme, Montaione, Certaldo, Empoli.
