A recognition of the most deserving, who have distinguished themselves in the various sports disciplines. From football to cycling, from basketball to volleyball, from athletics to tug-of-war, from artistic gymnastics to karate and kickboxing. This is the calling card of the “Premio Castellano dello Sport” (1st edition), an initiative promoted by the Municipal Administration of Castelfiorentino scheduled for Tuesday 1 July, at 9 p.m., at the PalaBetti (Palazzetto dello Sport, viale Roosevelt).
An evening to emphasise once again the importance that the municipality reserves for sporting activity, as a vehicle for sociality, social life, but also individual growth, a crucial stage in the formation of character and personality. An award that also intends to draw attention to the numerous disciplines that are present in the area, practised thanks to a widespread associative network, strong with hundreds of volunteers, and to the availability of facilities and installations that are increasingly suited to new needs.
The Castellano dello Sport Prize, which consists of a plaque, is awarded on the recommendation of the sporting association to which it belongs, and will be presented not only to well-established professionals (such as Alberto Bettiol or Tommaso Baldanzi), but also to young talents who have achieved outstanding results this year, without neglecting managers or coaches who have stood out for their commitment and passion.
The ceremony will be attended by the Mayor, Francesca Giannì, and the Deputy Mayor, Fabio Tinti.
“Castelfiorentino,’ observes the Mayor, Francesca Giannì, ‘has always been a city near to sport, thanks to the important endowment of facilities and the widespread presence of sports associations. It is a history that comes from afar, from sport experienced as a moment of aggregation, free and spontaneous play in the streets of our city, a characteristic that is at the origin of many of our associations, whose flourishing has also stimulated the construction of numerous state-of-the-art facilities. A humus has thus been created, a fertile soil on which champions have also been formed, whose achievements contribute, moreover, to keeping the nurseries of the young and very young active. A community has also been created around the world of sport, bringing together business groups, schools, associations, with significant repercussions also of a social nature. This award therefore represents the desire to offer these youngsters public recognition, a long live round of applause from the community for their commitment and achievements’.
“The institution of the Premio Castellano dello Sport (Castelfiorentino Sport Award) – observes the Deputy Mayor with responsibility for Sport, Fabio Tinti – is a special step for our community. This award stems from the desire to valorise and reward those who, with commitment, passion and dedication, best represent the values of sport and bring the name of Castelfiorentino to the top. Sport is a fundamental element of our daily lives, a vehicle for personal growth, inclusion and solidarity. With this award, we want to recognise not only sporting achievements, but also the commitment, fair play and team spirit that characterise our athletes and our sports clubs. I therefore once again invite the entire community to continue to support and promote sport as a tool for growth and unity. I am certain that this award will become a point of reference and a source of pride for Castelfiorentino’.
