Basketball fever rises in Castelfiorentino. Tomorrow night (Wednesday, July 5) will in fact kick off “Stars of the Square,” the eighth edition of the Streetball 3X3 tournament that will take place in the “Arena of the Stars” at the Circolo Arci “Puppino” (via Galvani), with the participation of numerous teams and players of all ages. In particular, it will be the very youngsters of the Junior cat. (boys and girls born from 2011 to 2014) who will kick off the event on the opening day, with the minibasket tournament (from 6 p.m.), and then continue on the following evenings (Thursday and Friday) with the Senior cat. The finals to be played on Saturday, July 8.
“The ‘Stars of the Square’ tournament,” notes Sports Councillor Simone Bruchi, “was born in 2013 and from the beginning has proved to be a popular event, although it had to be interrupted from 2020 to the present due to the covid emergency. As of tomorrow, however, young and old alike will be able to return to play this tournament at the basketball court on Via Galvani and to arouse renewed curiosity and interest in this sport, which in Castelfiorentino dates all the way back to the fall of 1945 with the first little games played with U.S. Army soldiers. Therefore, my thanks go to the organizers of this event, which contributes to enhancing the value of a very popular sport in Castelfiorentino.”
