The Calugi family and the truffle are tied together by a long history. It all begins with Antonio, Stefania Calugi’s great-grandfather, and continues with grandfather Guido and father Renato. The latter cultivated with perseverance and determination his great passion for truffles, turning it into his work. Renato’s teachings and passion were a source of inspiration for Stefania, who in 1987 was able to give life to her dream and that of her father with the birth of the company.

Due to the strong link with the Val d’Elsa, a hilly area between Florence and Pisa known for its beautiful landscapes and rich in art and history, in 1988 Stefania Calugi opened her first small workshop of 67 square meters in the center of Castelfiorentino. In 1992 the company moved to a different, larger location (also in Castelfiorentino), as production needs required a larger staff and new machinery, so the company moved from a space of 67 square meters to 400 square meters. The line dedicated to supplies for other companies (for example: delicatessen and cheese factories), which required semi-finished truffle products to be used as ingredients was perfected.

Stefani a Calugi’s company over the years grew and improved more and more until it became a true excellence in our territory and nationally with the certification “Made in Italy“. Since 2017, moreover, in his showroom was also made a cognitive path called “The road of the Truffle” that allows visitors to discover the history, secrets and peculiarities of this precious raw material.

To date, the experiences that Stefania and her team offer to the public are many and unique, from truffle hunting to picnics in the woods. To begin to discover this world we suggest you to try their new formula “APERITARTUFO“, every Friday from 17:00 to 19:30 Stefania opens her showroom. A guided tour through the path “La strada del Tartufo” (The truffle road) is waiting for you and then a delicious aperitif, obviously based on truffles. The cost is 10,00 € and booking is compulsory, by contacting the Tourist Information Office of Castelfiorentino.
