Monday, April 10 celebration in the hamlet, with lunch and a guided tour of the Villa that hosted Giuseppe Garibaldi

It used to be reached on foot, because there were very few cars and a walk was beyond healthy. Once on site, people danced the mazurka on the farmyard to the sound of an accordion. And the highlight was a snack of bread and salami, an opportunity to get to know each other and socialize. This is the calling card of the traditional “Pasquetta” in Petrazzi, which on Monday, April 10, will be back in vogue with a celebration that will kick off from the morning (9 a.m.) with the sale of sandwiches and the display of classic cars.

Organized by the local Circolo Arci under the patronage of the City of Castelfiorentino, the festival also includes two rounds of visits (morning and afternoon) to the Villa Tinti-Fabiani, which hosted Giuseppe Garibaldi in 1867. A historic home that has become part of the “Houses of Memory” association, having preserved intact the atmosphere of the period: its 19th-century furnishings (including Garibaldi’s “room” with the original bed) a truly valuable collection of memorabilia of various types and even some precious documents, such as the letter Garibaldi wrote in 1876 to thank the “Amici di Castelfiorentino.”

Tours, which will start from the Circolo Arci (an escort by volunteers is provided), will run from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. A lunch at the Circolo Arci is also scheduled at 12:30 p.m. and dinner in the evening

“A beautiful initiative of the Circolo Arci in Petrazzi,” observes the mayor, Alessio Falorni, “which wanted to rediscover and enhance this tradition by combining it with a visit to the Villa that welcomed the ‘hero of two worlds,’ a wonder of our territory rediscovered recently and that the municipal administration wanted it to become part of the national network of the Houses of Memory. Therefore, I would like to thank all the volunteers who collaborated in the organization of the festival, including the owner of the Villa, Leonardo Fabiani, who has always been extremely willing to open the doors of this historic home to visitors.”
