Under his leadership, Calcio a Castelfiorentino experienced a golden period, reaching the Interregional title twice with the first team. A formation that could count on valuable elements, young promises destined in some cases to a luminous career, such as Luciano Spalletti.
These are the main results achieved by Luigi Calvetti, a well-known entrepreneur and at the time manager and then president of the Castelfiorentino Sports Club (who passed away in 2013), to whose memory the Mayor Falorni has decided to dedicate the Subsidiary Football Field during a Ceremony to be held on Sunday 7 April, at 5.30 p.m.
The ceremony will be attended by the Mayor, Alessio Falorni, the Councillor for Sport, Simone Bruchi, his son, Diego Calvetti (a well-known record producer, musician and conductor), his wife, Gloria Gaggioli, the First Team Manager of FBC Castelfiorentino United ASD, Mario Bacci, and the President of FBC Castelfiorentino United ASD, Alessandro Maltinti.
Luigi Calvetti, before being passionate about sport and music, was one of the most brilliant entrepreneurs in the Empolese Valdelsa, having founded LPM Cornici in 1972, an almost pioneering entrepreneurial initiative at the time and still one of the leading companies in the sector today.
His successes were repeated on the football side in the 1980s, first as manager and later as president of the sports club (from the 1996/97 season) when the team was promoted once again to the Interregional championship (in the 1982/83 season it had even finished third in that championship when Calvetti was vice-president, and second the following year).
For a decade, Calvetti led the Castellana club, paying attention not only to the first team, but also to the youth sector, restructuring and strengthening it, until he took the Gialloblù colours to the highest levels of the regional championships.
“Luigi Calvetti,” noted the mayor, Alessio Falorni, “was first and foremost a great entrepreneur who also became a valuable reference point for Castelfranco football, a protagonist of its rebirth and later of the extraordinary results achieved between the 1980s and 1990s, thanks also to the contribution of a team of absolute value and several players who went on to have careers, such as Luciano Spalletti. I am therefore happy to dedicate the auxiliary football pitch to his memory, for what he was able to give to the sport of Castelfiorentino. We all remember him, and we will remember him on Sunday afternoon with great affection, together with his son Diego, his wife Gloria, and the directors of the club”.
