An athletics Grand Prix involving the sports associations of the Empolese Valdelsa and the Cuoio area. On Sunday, 8 June (starting at 9.00 a.m.), the ‘Riccardo Neri’ Municipal Stadium of Castelfiorentino will host the last race (the fifth) of the ‘3° Criterium UISP in Pista’ – an event organised by the athletics sector of the Polisportiva I’Giglio of Castelfiorentino and reserved for the youth categories 5-10 years old.
Over 180 beginners will be at the starting line, competing for the last points to become the 2025 UISP Criterium champions.
So far, over 800 young athletes have competed in the four trials already held.
At the end of Sunday’s competitions, while waiting for the final rankings of the competition, there will also be a nutella party for all participants.
It will in fact be a day not only of sport but also of socialising under the banner of fair play. All athletes will receive a medallion as a souvenir of the competition, while the top 6 of the eight categories will also receive a specific ranking prize.
The organisation, assisted by many volunteers from the athletics sector, has been preparing the event for days, so that it will be remembered not only as a morning of sport, but also of celebration. In fact, the event aims to enhance the educational value of sport among the younger generation, where it is not so much about winning as it is about participating, learning about one’s own means, acquiring self-awareness and even greater confidence.
‘Events such as the Criterium in Pista – observes the Deputy Mayor in charge of Sport, Fabio Tinti – represent the continuity of a path of sporting and organisational growth, also thanks to the synergy between the Municipality of Castelfiorentino and the sporting realities of the territory, in particular with the Polisportiva I’Giglio and the UISP Comitato Empolese Valdelsa e Zona del Cuoio’.
‘The common goal,’ Tinti continues, ’is to allow very young athletes to compete in various athletics disciplines, to grow and socialise in a day of sport and fun.
Sport is and must always be an engine of development and promotion for our Castelfiorentino, and events such as this are an extraordinary opportunity to enhance the work of the clubs and the commitment of the athletes.‘’
