It hasn’t happened for 22 years that the Primavera team of Empoli Calcio has become Italian Champions. Instead, yesterday the Azzurri won 5-3 in Reggio Emilia against Atalanta, the defending champions.
To put his signature on this title, which a few months ago seemed unhoped for, was a player from Castelfiorentino. Tommaso Baldanzi, class 2003, with the 10 behind his back and talent to spare. 2 goals that have dragged the Empolese team to the conquest of the title.
But Baldanzi is not a surprise. In fact, Tommaso played a great season scoring 16 goals and being included in the TOP 11 of the Primavera Championship.
This great season also earned him numerous call-ups to the first team during the Serie B Championship and even making his debut in the Coppa Italia in the matches against Benevento and Napoli, as well as a call-up to the Italian National Under 18 team (debut with a double against Austria). Last night he finally received the award named after Piermario Morosini as the best player of the Championship.
But to cheer for the victory of the spring championship, and for that of Serie B, there was not only Baldanzi representing Castelfiorentino, but also Francesco Marino, physiotherapist of the primavera team and the first team. It’s a quiet job but one that allows the athletes to always be at their best. Francesco is the nephew of another Castelfiorentino player who has played in Serie B and C with Brescia, Brindisi, Giulianova and Prato, Vincenzo Marino.
