The fresco painted by the artist in Benozzo Gozzoli’s Chapel has been transferred to Tarrega (Spain), with which the Municipality will soon initiate a cultural exchange.
The fresco created by artist Josep Minguell in Benozzo Gozzoli’s Chapel has “flown” to Spain, specifically to Tarrega (the artist’s hometown), with which the Municipality will soon initiate a cultural exchange. The “strappo” ceremony, the final act of the ‘BeCOME – Frescoing the Tabernacle. Benozzo Gozzoli 1491 – Josep Minguell 2025’ project, took place on Tuesday evening in the Chapel that once housed the fresco by the famous Florentine painter. The public, who had constantly accompanied the creation of the work and followed this final phase of the Catalan artist’s work with equal interest and curiosity, was present.
As the Councillor for Culture, Franco Spina, recalled, the “BeCOME” project was born “from the idea of culture at your fingertips, based on experience, discovery and encounter. A device capable of re-establishing links with the territory, regaining a space of identity and building a collective sense of meaning”.
‘𝐁𝐞𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞,’ continues Spina, “was the recovery of an ancient sense of belonging, a love for a ritual that today seems to constitute our most authentic hope, a ritual that passes on and supports the values and rules that govern a community, that make time habitable and create a common rhythm of being together. Since the beginning of this journey, the Chapel of the Visitation has once again become a place lived in by us Castellani: faces, memories, new ideas, proposals, nostalgia from which a “larger fresco” is being created, also in progress’.
‘This project,’ observes Mayor Francesca Giannì, “has reopened a place of culture, transforming it into a place of choice for residences, artists’ workshops, and the city’s participation in our way of creating culture: pop, active, shared, alive, as a process and as a work of art. Cultural and civic patronage, as an action by the Administration to support the world of art in all its forms, finds its first complete realisation here, in Castelfiorentino Casa di Artisti.
Josep, a tireless “artist bricklayer”, as he described himself, but also now a friend, leaves Castelfiorentino with a farewell and numerous projects already in the pipeline for the city, finally passing the baton to the next artist who will bring BeGo Back 2026 to life. Around this workshop, in recent months, he has built, painted, woven relationships, promoted the area, made people reflect, pray and admire. We will always be grateful to him for this urbanisation of culture.
