“Let’s kick against silence, invisible pain and indifference”. This, in a nutshell, is the message behind the appeal launched by Endo-Care, an organisation dedicated to the prevention of endometriosis, for the charity football tournament scheduled for Sunday 17 May at the “Riccardo Neri” Municipal Stadium in Casteliorentino (kick-off at 10.00 a.m.).
The initiative, organised by FBC Castelfiorentino United and “Endo-Care insieme per prenderci cura della salute delle donne A.p.s.” under the patronage of Castelfiorentino Town Council, aims to raise public awareness of the importance of effective prevention of endometriosis, a gynaecological condition which, if not treated properly and in good time, can lead to permanent, debilitating damage.
The tournament features eight teams of seven players in the “pulcini” category (born in 2016), who will compete in two groups (A and B) in 10-minute matches. At the end of the initial phase, the top teams will proceed to the Gold Group, whilst the others will compete in the Silver Group. The participating teams are: Castelfiorentino United, Sextum Bientina, Poggibonsese, Sestese, Scandicci, Pro Livorno Sorgenti, Novoli and Signa. At the end of the tournament, there will be an awards ceremony and lunch at the venue.
The prevention of endometriosis is essentially linked to the identification of the characteristics and symptoms of this condition which, as is well known, is characterised by the abnormal presence of endometrial tissue (the lining of the uterine cavity) outside the uterus. This condition can affect women from their first period onwards and persist until the end of their reproductive years, causing acute pain during menstruation, sexual intercourse, etc…
The “Endo-Care” association – made up exclusively of volunteers (doctors and healthcare professionals, patients, etc.) – has been actively engaged in this awareness-raising work for several years, including in schools, and the Municipality of Castelfiorentino has also participated in the past with a number of symbolic initiatives.
“Endometriosis”, notes Federica Parisi, Councillor for Social Policies, “is notoriously difficult to diagnose. It is therefore essential to inform women about the importance of being alert to certain symptoms, so that they can seek the necessary treatment in good time. As has been the case in the past, the Municipal Council has decided to support this new initiative by Endo-Care, in collaboration with FBC Castelfiorentino United, whom I would like to thank for their cooperation. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that Endo-Care’s prevention campaign in our area will continue throughout September.”
