Animated stories in the library garden to teach the younger generation about the beauty of nature and the importance of respecting it. This is the highlight of the “Nature is a Secret Garden” programme, featuring eco-readings and creative workshops for children aged 4 to 9, to be held outdoors in the garden of the “Vallesiana” Library, every morning (10.00 a.m.) throughout June and July (participation is free).
There are four events on the programme: Wednesday 17 June, “Summer Footprints”, featuring readings about nature and a frottage workshop using leaves, flowers and natural materials; Wednesday 24 June, ‘Roses in the Salad’, stories featuring tasty vegetables, with a creative printing workshop inspired by Bruno Munari. Friday 3 July: “Small Sails, Great Adventures”, readings about the sea and building a little boat ready to set sail on a journey of the imagination. Friday 10 July: “Caleidofiore”, stories about the colours of nature and making an original floral kaleidoscope.
“An event designed for children”, emphasises the Councillor for Culture, Franco Spina, “to encourage them to read and rediscover the library garden, which has recently been refurbished with new furniture and is ideal for trying out new creative activities suited to their age. I also believe it is important to instil in the younger generation a respect for nature and a love of its beauty, starting with an appreciation of the many wonders it has to offer. A heritage that we all have a duty to preserve”.
Finally, from Monday 15 June, the “Vallesiana” Municipal Library will observe the following opening hours, valid until 15 September: Monday to Friday 9.30 a.m.–1.00 p.m., plus Tuesday and Thursday afternoons 3.00 p.m.–7.00 p.m. and Saturdays 9.30 a.m.–12.30 p.m.
