This is the business card of the 4th Dante Festival, which after twelve national and three regional editions will take place for the fourth time in Tuscany on Saturday, November 20th in Castelfiorentino (FI), as part of the celebrations for the Centennial of Dante (1321-2021).

Organized by the Municipality of Castelfiorentino and the Cultural Association Xenia under the artistic direction of Simone Terreni, the evening will start at 3.00 p.m. in Piazza Gramsci with the inauguration of the work “La Comedia sul corpo”, a statue dedicated to Dante created by the artist Sonia Rossetti with the contribution of Stefania Calugi Tartufi.

To follow (3.30 pm), three conferences at the Teatro del Popolo, with talks by Francesco Salvestrini (“Dante and the Italy of his time”), Francesca Allegri (“Dante: the muses and the readers”), Massimo Tosi (“Dante’s places”). Beginning with a review of Dante’s role in Italy and Europe, with reference to his vision of the relationship between Papacy and Empire (Salvestrini), we will then focus on the female figures in Dante’s work (Allegri) and places connected to his biography (Tosi), also present in an exhibition that will be inaugurated at the end of the speeches at the Oratory of San Carlo.

At 18.00, the awards ceremony at the Teatro del Popolo of the regional competition for audiovisual works freely inspired by Dante’s Comedy, with guests, curiosities, previews and the presentation of the “Piccolo Museo Dantesco”. A qualified jury will assign a first, second and third prize, as well as some special prizes such as “best performer”, “best director”, “best original music”, and so on. At 20.00 a “fourteenth-century aperitif” for all participants.

“We are honored to host the 4th Festival Dantesco in Castelfiorentino – says the Deputy Mayor in charge of Culture, Claudia Centi – in an afternoon that promises to be rich and full of emotions. An opportunity to celebrate the Dante Year in Castelfiorentino, ranging from the works presented for the Regional Video Competition, the artistic work of Sonia Rossetti, a statue depicting Dante and the Divine Comedy donated to the City by Calugi Tartufi, and finally the qualified interventions of scholars at the Teatro del Popolo, such as Francesco Salvestrini, Francesca Allegri and Massimo Tosi, the latter author of a beautiful book on Dante and curator of a traveling exhibition that is exposed on this occasion at the Oratory of San Carlo. I would therefore like to thank all those who, in various ways, have worked for the organization of this event, starting with the artistic director of the evening, Simone Terreni”.

Please note that during the afternoon, in addition to the exhibition “Dante’s places” curated by Massimo Tosi (Oratorio San Carlo, free guided tour), it will also be possible to visit the Be.Go. Museum and the Santa Verdiana Museum with a reduced ticket.
