Success of the race organized by ASD Ciclistica San Miniato and Santa Croce sull’Arno
A tradition that is renewed every year, reaffirming Castelfiorentino’s status as one of the leading centers for youth cycling in Tuscany. More than 240 participants competed on Sunday in a race counting toward the SBG G.P. Riello Trophy, along three circuits reserved respectively for the “1st-year novices” (13 years old), “2nd-year novices” (14 years old), and “junior” (15–16 years old) categories.
The cyclists, coming from all over Tuscany as well as other regions such as Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, and Piedmont, rode through the municipal area on a circuit ranging from 35 to 79 km (the same circuit, but with a different number of laps), tailored to their respective categories.
There was also a strong female presence among the “1st-year novices,” in addition to Tuscan champion Edoardo Moriconi, while the “2nd-year novices” category featured Mattia Di Domenico (2026 Italian champion) from Liguria and Tuscan champion Diego Della Polla. Finally, in the “athletes” category, regional champion Gioele Gabbrielleschi competed.
“We are honored,” emphasizes Mayor Francesca Giannì, “to have hosted this race in Castelfiorentino, where so many promising young athletes have grown up—such as Alberto Bettol and Kristian Sbaragli, who compete at the national level, as well as Irene Puccioni herself, now a highly respected figure in the world of journalism. I would also like to take this opportunity to highlight the significant number of female participants in last Sunday’s competition, which confirms a passion that is becoming increasingly widespread among the younger generations. My thanks therefore go to the leaders of the San Miniato and Santa Croce cycling clubs, and to the sponsors who made such an important event as this possible.”
