Thursday, 1 January (5 p.m.) concert by the ‘G. Verdi’ Philharmonic Orchestra during which the most famous pieces of the Viennese tradition will also be performed
The most famous pieces from the finest Viennese tradition, as well as Bizet’s wonderful Arlésienne suite and Tchaikovsky’s enchanting “Waltz of the Flowers”. The Filarmonica ‘G. Verdi’ of Castelfiorentino will perform an exceptional repertoire in its traditional New Year’s Concert, scheduled at the Teatro del Popolo on Thursday 1 January (5 p.m.; single ticket €6).
In addition to the musical pieces “signed” by Strauss, the concert will also include scores linked to the passionate love story of a young man for a girl from Arles (hence the title “L’Arlésienne”) narrated by Alphonse Daudet, through the music that Georges Bizet composed in two successful orchestral suites. The concert will also feature one of the most famous pieces from Cajkovskij’s “The Nutcracker”, the “Waltz of the Flowers”, which has also inspired several fantasy films.
The New Year’s Concert, conducted by Maestro Stefano Mangini, will feature forty musicians from the Philharmonic Orchestra. They will be joined by students from class 3A of the Bacci Ridolfi school and the municipal music school who are participating in projects aimed at young people, carried out under the patronage of the municipal administration.
” These young people, – observes Alessio Pontiggia, President of the ’G. Verdi‘ Philharmonic – are making their debut and will perform a repertoire of original pieces for band, which they have prepared with commitment and dedication. Finally, there will be a surprise, an engaging piece of considerable impact and difficulty, which will express the joy and optimism with which we will face the new year, together with our wonderful audience.”
“The New Year’s Concert – observes Mayor Francesca Giannì – has now become a recurring event in the life of our community, renewing the tradition of welcoming the start of the new year in the splendid setting of the Teatro del Popolo together with the “G. Verdi” Philharmonic Orchestra. I also welcome with joy the new participation of the students of Bacci-Ridolfi, which also certifies the commitment of the Music School to training and education through projects aimed at spreading musical culture among the younger generations.”
