Saturday 1 April at the Teatro del Popolo in Castelfiorentino, an evening dedicated to the great tenor, promoted by the association “Amici della Lirica” that bears his name.

An exceptional evening promises to be held on Saturday 1 April at the Teatro del Popolo in Castelfiorentino, where the “Gran Galà Operistico” dedicated to the great tenor Umberto Borsò is scheduled at 9 p.m. as part of the initiatives planned this year for the centenary of his birth. Promoted by the Association “Amici della Lirica Umberto Borsò”, the evening will feature a selection of operas that were part of the Castelfiorentino tenor’s extensive repertoire, from “Cavalleria Rusticana” to “La Traviata”, from “La forza del destino” to “Il Trovatore” and so on.

Dozens of artists will take the stage, three of whom were selected by the association during auditions held in January: soprano Martina Fulignati (Empoli), mezzo-soprano Beatrice Amato (Reggio Emilia) and tenor Alessandro Fantoni (Genoa). Two internationally renowned guests will also perform: soprano Maria Billeri and baritone Giancarlo Ceccarini, the latter a personal friend of Umberto Borsò and Miriam Ferretti, an internationally renowned singer who was also a native of Castelfiorentino (who passed away in 2000).

In addition to the symphonic orchestra of the Orpheus association, made up of some thirty musicians, and the youth choir of the same association, the evening’s novelties include the debut of the ‘Castellano Lyric Choir’, made up of some forty choristers, who last year gave life to a musical workshop born from a collaboration between the association “Amici della Lirica Umberto Borsò” and the Castelfiorentino Music School (directed by Gabriele Centorbi).

The association “Amici della Lirica” will participate in the evening with Martina Barreca, Francesco Marchetti, Elisabetta Vuocolo, together with Alessandro Ceccarini, Lorenzo Martinuzzi, and Claudio Mugnaini. Between performances, there will also be some video projections and testimonies dedicated to the great tenor.

“An evening not to be missed,” observes Deputy Mayor Claudia Centi, “dedicated to our fellow-citizen and tenor Umberto Borsò, “the world’s bel canto ambassador”, whose birth centenary falls this year, and for whom the association that bears his name is doing a truly excellent job not only in remembering him as he deserves, We also have in store other events that we cannot reveal for the moment, but above all to rediscover and enhance the tradition of opera music in Castelfiorentino, which is part of our identity, our culture and our history”.

The evening is organised in collaboration with the Municipality of Castelfiorentino, the Fondazione Teatro del Popolo, Ente Cambiano Scpa, GialloMare Minimal tatro, Orpheus Aps.
