His paintings are exhibited in public and private collections in more than sixty countries around the world. Works of painting and drawing, dedicated to the Tuscan landscape, still life, portraits, without neglecting religious subjects. This is the calling card of Sergio Manzi, one of the greatest Tuscan and Italian artists of the 20th century, to whom a ‘Personal Retrospective’ is dedicated on the 20th anniversary of his death, which will be inaugurated on Saturday 30 March 2024 (4.00 p.m.) at the Oratorio di San Carlo in Castelfiorentino (Via Testaferrata).
Organised by the cultural association Arte Libera-mente in collaboration with the Ente Cambiano Spca and the patronage of the Municipality of Castelfiorentino, the exhibition is part of the artist’s journey to raise awareness of art as a real expression of the concrete values of life.
It will remain open until 14 April, but his works can also be seen in the new cultural centre under construction at the former Cinema Puccini, having been acquired by Banca di Cambiano 1884 spa
“They caught our attention,” observes Paolo Regini, president of the Banca di Cambiano, “for their clear originality and creative imprint. Gentle and candid works, as was the Maestro’s character. Figures and forms that are never stereotyped, romantic or mystical, but certainly full of feeling and high human warmth’.
A lover of good music and reading, Sergio Manzi was also a collector of antiques, paintings and sculptures by important international artists, a scholar of astronomy, celestial bodies and all of nature. “An all-round man of culture”, his son Duccio remembers him, “respectful of others and their ideas, in all areas of society, from politics to art”.
“The exhibition dedicated to Sergio Manzi,” observes the Deputy Mayor in charge of Culture, Claudia Centi, “represents one of the most important cultural appointments of this season, and I am happy that his works – which we will be able to admire as a preview at the Oratory of San Carlo – have found a worthy collocation in the new Cultural Centre that is being built in Corso Matteotti, qualifying our city centre with a new high-level infrastructure.
Saturday’s inauguration will be accompanied by a wine and pastry tasting.
The exhibition dedicated to Sergio Manzi will remain open every day (except Easter day) with the following opening hours: 11.00 a.m.-1.00 p.m./2.30 p.m.-7.00 p.m.
