A new Open Space that will host the “Scuola Teatro Comico Contemporaneo”. This is the new challenge of Teatro C’Art, which aims to become an innovative artistic and cultural complex, a pole of excellence and reference for the whole of Tuscany. Saturday 16 November (at 6:00 p.m.) will see the inauguration of the new building adjacent to the theatre’s headquarters (Via Brodolini 8, loc. Pesciola) at the end of a renovation and redevelopment project made possible thanks also to a 98,000 euro grant from the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze within the framework of the Call for Proposals “Spazi Attivi 2022, Percorsi di rigenerazione urbana del territorio” and the “AbbracciArte” fundraising campaign.

The new Open Space will make it possible to create a theatre-workshop, an artistic workshop for the assembly of stage sets and the creation of masks by students, a storage room for stage sets and equipment, changing rooms and services. It will also house the Contemporary Comedy Theatre School, which will bring young performing arts talents into the sector, who need not only artistic support, but also guidance in the bureaucratic-administrative, scenographic-technical and distribution world of the sector.

In short, an innovative cultural and theatrical hub that can generate inclusion, work and wealth. The new challenge is to foster youth employment through a space of creation and professional affirmation both for artists and for those who live or would like to live in and in the theatrical cultural sector by exploring the various work possibilities (artistic, organisational, manual creation and stage setting, training and pedagogical).

“This space”, observes André Casaca, artistic director of Teatro C’Art, “was created to host the School of Contemporary Comic Theatre, a project that, from my experience as an artist and teacher, aims to offer students training that goes beyond technique, concretely preparing them for the world of work. The aim is to stimulate each artist to explore their creative interest, to find their own way and to create a product with a unique identity. It is a place that first and foremost values the human aspect of the artist, encouraging them to work on their personal and artistic resources. This school is also the fruit of a community project. Its realisation was possible thanks to the concrete support of many people who believed in our dream. Part of the funds needed for the renovation came from those who wanted to invest in this project, making this space a reality. Officially opening the school is a special moment, allowing us to give an account to all those who helped us”.

“The C’art Theatre has been for decades now”, emphasises the Councillor for Culture, Franco Spina, “not only a pole of excellence on the production and training side of the theatre, through the method of comic-relational communication, but also a great example of youthful cultural entrepreneurship, capable of combining often transversal artistic skills with new management and design models of international scope. This new “active space” is the realisation of a splendid vision in which, as an administration, we strongly believe, for its cultural, educational, social, and fully human value. A vision that finds its centrality in “becoming a gift”, in diversity and proximity. Because comedy is first and foremost an act of Love”.

At Saturday’s opening event from 3:00 p.m. onwards, a round table is also scheduled on the theme “Comic Theatre and Contemporary Circus: between training, research, creation and production in Italy”, with speeches by Mario Gumina and Luisa Cuttini (Circuito Claps Lombardia), Sam Mc Ghee (Accademia dell’arte di Arezzo), Patrizia Coletta (Fondazione Toscana Spettacolo), André Casaca (Teatro C’art), moderator Annalisa Bonvicini. This will be followed (at 6:00 p.m.) by the inauguration with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and speeches by the Mayor Francesca Gianni, the Councillor for Culture, Franco Spina, and finally Antonio Decrescenzo (Fondazione CR Firenze). In the evening, an apericena and at 9:00 p.m. a live concert by the “Salduende”.
