An opera concert to pay tribute to the musical genius of Giacomo Puccini, in the year of the centenary of his death. “Puccini – The Music of Three Worlds” is in fact the title of the evening scheduled for Saturday 24 February (9.00 p.m.) at the Teatro del Popolo in Castelfiorentino, an ideal journey between the Europe of “La Bohème” and “Tosca”, the America of “La Fanciulla del West”, and the Far East of “Madama Butterfly” and “Turandot”.

Bringing Puccini’s immortal characters to life will be the young opera singers who won the first edition of the “Umberto Borsò International Opera Singing Prize”, which ended a few days ago.

The concert – which will propose many of Puccini’s most important masterpieces – will feature on stage the “Orpheus” symphonic orchestra conducted by Maestro Gabriele Centorbi, the Castellano Opera Choir, and the “Orpheus” Youth Choir.

As you may recall, the Umberto Borsò International Opera Singing Prize was a great success, thanks to the participation of no less than 95 opera singers from all over the world, who brought Castelfiorentino back to the centre of the international opera scene. Of the thirteen finalists, the young Korean tenor Hyun-Seo Park, soprano Maila Fulignati from Empoli, soprano Martina Tragni from Apulia, and soprano Beatrice Bavaresco from the Veneto region were awarded prizes (and will perform at the concert on Saturday 24 February).

The evening was promoted by the Association “Amici della Lirica Umberto Borsò” of Castelfiorentino (which organised the International Opera Singing Prize) in collaboration with the Municipality, the Fondazione Teatro del Popolo, the Ente Cambiano Scpa, the association Orpheus Aps, and Giallo Mare Minimal Teatro.

“Another beautiful evening in the name of opera,” observes the Deputy Mayor with responsibility for Culture, Claudia Centi, “in the name of Giacomo Puccini, who, as the title of the event suggests, was a true excellence on the international scene and certainly one of the greatest Italian composers of all time. I therefore renew my feeling of gratitude to the “Amci della Lirica Umberto Borsò” Association, which is making a truly commendable effort to recover, spread and promote the passion for opera at all levels, together with the other musical associations that will be present at this evening”.

Tickets for the “Puccini – The Music of the Three Worlds” concert can be purchased directly from the theatre’s website or directly from the theatre box office (prices: stalls and boxes, 14 euros, gallery 13 euros).
