On Friday, April 10 (9:00 p.m.), the Tuscan author and comedian will perform a show, with proceeds going to support the San Martino Hospice (Empoli), which provides palliative care.
Life as a couple, the relationships between men and women captured in their everyday lives—at times hilariously funny, made up of petty squabbles and mutual misunderstandings. But also the sometimes obsessive relationship with animals (cats, dogs), not to mention the countless paradoxes experienced within the home.
A radiant image, and arms outstretched as if to imply a long embrace of life, are the calling card of “Katia Beni Show,” which the Tuscan author and comedian will bring to the stage at the Teatro del Popolo on Friday, April 10, at 9:00 p.m., as part of a benefit evening in support of the Hospice of San Martino in Empoli. The proceeds will be donated to the facility, which is part of the ASL Toscana Centro and provides palliative care for residents of the Empolese Valdelsa and Valdarno Inferiore regions.
Katia Beni, a comedian and cabaret artist with a long theatrical career that began when she was very young (including notable collaborations with Alessandro Benvenuti and Carlo Conti), returns to the stage of the Teatro del Popolo following her recent New Year’s Eve performance. But she does so in a new guise, through a long sequence of hilarious sketches in which her gaze, body language, and gestures are her strengths. A brand of comedy based, as she herself noted a few weeks ago, on personal experience, which leads the audience to “recognize themselves” in many aspects and moments of real life, portrayed with subtle irony and through an inevitable interaction with the audience.
Before every show, Katia makes a point of learning about the venue, its history, its traditions, and the people who best represent it, as if to strengthen this affectionate bond with those attending her shows. And so it’s safe to assume we’ll hear some great stories about Castelfiorentino as well.
“Initiatives like these,” emphasizes Mayor Francesca Giannì, “are important not only because they enrich the cultural offerings of the Castella theater season with a show full of irony and humor—in true Tuscan style—of which Katia is undoubtedly one of the finest performers, but also and above all for the noble goal of supporting the projects of a facility that cares for terminally ill patients. I am therefore confident that the citizens will respond to my appeal with broad participation.”
“We are delighted,” notes Sandra Niccolini (Hospice San Martino), “with Katia’s contribution and that of the various organizations involved, such as Ente Cambiano, Avis, the Teatro Foundation, and the Municipality of Castelfiorentino. Without them, it would have been difficult to make all of this happen.”
