Wednesday 10 June marks the 6th edition of this major sporting event. Around 120 athletes from across Tuscany are expected to take part.
The countdown has begun for one of the most eagerly awaited events for athletics enthusiasts. On Wednesday 10 June, the 6th edition of the “URBAN park RUNNING” Relay (18th “Giracastello” Trophy) will take place – a competitive relay race held on a completely flat 3 km circuit within the “G. Bartali” Urban Park and the Parco dei Filosofi in Castelfiorentino. Around 120 athletes from across Tuscany will take part in the competition (minimum age 18), organised annually by Polisportiva I’ Giglio and Avis Castelfiorentino in collaboration with the UISP Empoli Valdelsa Committee (under the patronage of AVIS Regionale Toscana, AVIS Empolese Valdarno and the Municipality of Castelfiorentino).
Each relay team will consist of three athletes, who may belong to different clubs, provided they hold a valid competitive sports medical certificate. Each individual relay runner must complete one lap of the designated course, approximately 3 km in length. The timing chip (baton) will be handed to the competitors in the first leg at the start area. The rankings will be based on the total times taken by the relay teams to complete the courses.
Registration will take place from 7.00 pm in the area in front of the Polisportiva I’Giglio headquarters on Viale Roosevelt (next to the “Riccardo Neri” Municipal Stadium). A bag storage facility and changing rooms with showers will be available to participants. The race is scheduled to start at 8.15 pm. The event will go ahead whatever the weather. A participation prize will be guaranteed for every individual runner taking part, and the relay teams achieving the best times will be awarded prizes. The various categories will be determined based on the combined age of the three athletes making up each relay team. A special prize will also be awarded to the best male and female relay runners and to the best relay runner belonging to Avis. In addition, a commemorative medal will be presented to every participating athlete belonging to Avis.
