Wednesday, June 18, the Relay “Urban Park Running” (17th Giracastello Trophy”) competitive race disputed by teams of three athletes, which will take place on a completely flat 3-kilometer circuit within the Urban Park and the new Philosophers’ Park in Castelfiorentino, is back.
Promoted by Polisportiva I’Giglio and Avis Castelfiorentino in collaboration with the UISP Comitato Empoli Valdelsa, the event is sponsored by the City of Castelfiorentino, and the race will be valid for the UISP Regional Relay Running Championship. In this regard, the relays that will compete for the Regional title must be composed only of athletes in possession of the UISP card (issued at least three days prior to the event).The first classified relays in each category will be awarded with the Regional Champion jersey, plus a medal for the first three classified relays. Prizes will also be awarded to the top three most numerous companies and the top three companies with merit points.
For the other awards provided, all other sports promotion bodies (Fidal, etc…) remain valid. In addition, this year an additional award dedicated to all AVIS blood donors has been introduced, and the best Avis fractionalist will receive a special prize.
Each relay will consist of three athletes (minimum 18 years of age), who may also belong to different clubs. Each individual relay runner will have to run one lap of the planned course of about 3 km. The timing chip (baton) will be given to the first leg competitors at the starting area. The ranking will be based on the total times taken by the relays to complete the routes. The Relay Race is competitive and only athletes with appropriate competitive sports medical certificate will participate.
The meeting, registration of athletes, start and finish will take place in the spaces in front of the headquarters of Polisportiva I’Giglio on Roosevelt Avenue (adjacent to the Municipal Stadium “Riccardo Neri”). Changing rooms, bag storage and shower service (as well as ample parking facilities) will be made available to participants. The meeting is scheduled at 7 p.m., while the start is scheduled at 8:15 p.m. There will be surveillance points on the route to ensure the success of the event and refreshments at the end of the race. Awards for the best times achieved by the relays will be made according to categories, awarded on the basis of the total age of the three athletes composing each relay. A special prize will also be awarded to the “best fractionist” man and woman, while a participation award will be presented to all participants.
“Urban Park Running,” observes Deputy Mayor with responsibility for Sports, Fabio Tinti, “attracts hundreds of fans of this discipline with each edition, and is therefore a valuable showcase not only for the entire sports area but also for the two Parks that are located in the immediate vicinity, a ”green lung” suitable for those who want to take a walk or even go for a healthy jog. In this case it also serves as a natural venue for a sporting event, a competitive race promoted by the Polisportiva I’Giglio, which once again this year made a great effort to ensure the organization and success of the event. Therefore, special thanks go to the Polisportiva, in particular to President Silvano Comanducci and Iacopo Manetti, a constant and valuable point of reference for this sporting event.”
