Two concerts on Friday and Saturday: “I Giovani e la Filarmonica” featuring I Turbolenti, and a performance combining drama and opera presented by the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. – Free admission
The “Giugno Musicale Castellano” festival is in full swing, featuring two performances this weekend. The first event is scheduled for Friday, June 5, at the Cortile di Santa Maria della Marca (9:00 p.m.) with “I Giovani e la Filarmonica”: an evening featuring a performance of “Peter and the Wolf,” Sergei Prokofiev’s famous musical fairy tale (conductor Stefano Mangini, narrator Davide Dall’Osso), with the “Turbolenti”—students participating in projects jointly organized by the Philharmonic and the Music School (directed by Jasmine Conti)—taking the stage.
On Saturday, June 6, the festival moves to Piazza Gramsci (9:00 p.m.) for the second event on the program: “Verdi Game,” an interactive performance blending prose and opera, part of the “Maggio Metropolitano” series organized by the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
Produced by “Venti Lucenti,” “Verdi Game” is presented as a narrative exploring the life and works of the famous composer—almost like a game in which the audience is drawn in “live,” as if Giuseppe Verdi were still delighting us with his larger-than-life personality and his vibrant musical mind. An original and passionate, yet also poignant, portrait of a musician who left behind some of the most beautiful operas of all time.
The artist, the man of culture, and the public figure—his extraordinary music, the most significant events of his life, and his creations—will be brought to life through actors, singers, live music, stories of his life, and tales of his operas. As a counterpoint, the character of Falstaff will be entrusted with the task of offering a new perspective on life: laughter is good for the heart and the mind; it serves to put the value of small and great sorrows into perspective, but also to highlight how fragile and full of flaws human nature is.
The production is organized by the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (in co-production with Venti Lucenti) and is presented in collaboration with the Accademia del Maggio Musicale as part of “Maggio Metropolitano,” a project of the Fondazione Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino funded by the Metropolitan City of Florence.
