Starting on 12 November 2024, two choreographic creation courses dedicated to citizens of all ages and abilities, even those without specific knowledge of body language and dance, will begin in Castelfiorentino: IN PROSSIMITÀ DEL FIUME at the BeGo Museum and AGORÀ MADRI E FIGLI – PADRI E FIGLI at the “Santa Verdiana” museum opf sacred art, curated by dancer and choreographer Virgilio Sieni, an artist active in the international sphere for the major theatrical and musical institutions, art foundations and museums.
The paths are part of Officine del Gesto / Piccoli Musei 2024, a project by Virgilio Sieni conceived and developed for the Metropolitan Area of Florence and based on the activation of permanent cultural workshops in relation to the museums and art places that co-participate in the geography of the city. The project revolves around the issue of frequentation and knowledge of the cultural heritage and researches the declinations and ways of inhabiting and experiencing museum spaces: spaces of encounter and awareness to undertake a shared journey on memory, tradition and experiential potential of the territories, always put into dialogue with the contemporary languages of art.
IN PROSSIMITÀ DEL FIUME envisages a cycle of four encounters aimed at citizens of all ages, creatives, dancers, performers and all those who wish to participate in the physical and human experience of poetic gesture in dramaturgical form. The course will also see the participation of the guests of the Casa di Riposo Ciapetti of Castelfiorentino.
The experience will start from the Tabernacle known as the Tabernacle of the Visitation, frescoed by Benozzo Gozzoli in 1491, whose frescoes are now housed in the BEGO Museo Benozzo Gozzoli. Participants will be involved in a choreographic workshop aimed at awakening those tactile and metaphorical links that certain features of the frescoes indicate to us: the momentum of gesture, the beauty of detail and fragility, the dimension of dreams, the play of glances. The initiative will culminate in a public viewing on Saturday 16 November at 5:00 p.m. at the BeGo Museum. The project is conceived and led by Virgilio Sieni, assisted by assistants Andrea Bianca Maragliano and Mara Roberto, in collaboration with the Casa di Riposo Ciapetti of Castelfiorentino.
AGORÀ MADRI E FIGLI – PADRI E FIGLI is a cycle of five encounters aimed at couples or nuclei of mothers and daughters/sons, fathers and daughters/sons from the age of 10, which takes inspiration – as in the first edition Touching the Cheek (2023) – from the paintings depicting the Madonna and Child in the Santa Verdiana Museum of Sacred Art. These works, by predisposing the audience to acts of meditation and prayer, invite the viewer to a change of posture, leading participants to the creation of choreographic actions on the filial relationship. The journey will culminate in a public viewing on Sunday 17 November at 11:00 a.m. at the Santa Verdiana Museum.
The project is conceived and led by Virgilio Sieni, assisted by assistant Mara Roberto, artistic collaboration with Mariagrazia Portera.
