An afternoon to get together. But also to get closer to some sports, or perhaps a survival course. Attend demonstrations of ancient crafts. Get to know the thousand faces of volunteerism, or indulge in some “amarcord,” recovering history and memory of a community. This and much more are the mosaic of “Festa Insieme,” an event that brings together the many associative experiences engaged in sports, volunteerism, prevention, agriculture, defense and enhancement of the memory of a community and that will take place Sunday, Sept. 10 in the Park area of Roosevelt Avenue (4-7 p.m.)
Organized by the Polisportiva I’Giglio, the Pro Loco, and the “Castelfiorentino Farmers’ Association” (under the patronage of the Municipality of Castelfiorentino) “Festa Insieme” is now in its seventh edition and this year again features a rich and diverse program, alternating the promotion of sports practice with the rediscovery of traditions, solidarity commitment with volunteerism.
Confirmed the park area of Viale Roosevelt as the natural location of the festival, where the stands of the associations will be set up and the various activities, open to all ages, will be held. In this regard, children will receive a flyer at the entrance with a route to follow, and those who complete it will receive a gadget from the Polisportiva and the Castelfiorentino Farmers’ Association as a souvenir of the event.
The Polisportiva I’Giglio will organize some performances and the opportunity to try some sports disciplines such as Athletics, Boxing, Bocce, Women’s Soccer, Artistic Gymnastics, Karate and Self Defense, Kickboxing, Running, Tennis, Padel and Pole dancing. Among this year’s new features are Beach Volleyball and Survival, to learn survival techniques such as building a shelter, starting a fire, drinking water, orienting oneself and more. Also planned is a display of Rope Shooting. Around 5 p.m. awards will also be presented to the heads of the various sectors and the most representative athletes of each sport discipline.
The Farmers’ Association will hold a full-fledged “Feast on the Farmyard” (8th edition) with demonstrations of ancient crafts (basket-making, threshing with the correggiato), old-fashioned games (spinning top throwing, jumping rope and so on), tractor ride, and the “Kitchen Garden in a Box” workshop that anticipates the project that will start again in the fall in elementary school and that has always been a great uccess among the Comprehensive’s pupils.
Also planned is an exhibition by the association “Sei di Castelfiorentino se…” curated by Alessandro Verdiani and Stefano Longhi, where people will be able to browse through beautiful black-and-white images of the area, memories of the flood of ’66, or those of the school. A photo set will also be set up with an elementary school desk where Stefano Longhi will immortalize those present with an author’s photo. Also noteworthy are the prevention and rescue initiatives: “let’s prevent together,” by the Civil Defense (Prociv Arci), suggestions and advice on how to behave in case of emergency; that of the R.A.V. (Radio Association Valdelsa), which will carry out a simulation radio support activity in case of emergency; and that of the Misericordia di Castelfiorentino, which in addition to reminding people of the importance of volunteering will carry out a technical-practical AED qualification course. Finally, initiatives by the Auser, the “Giglio Rosso” Photography Group and other associations, such as the “Friends of Hospice” of Empoli in support of the palliative care center.
“Next Sunday,” stresses the mayor, Alessio Falorni, “citizens are invited to participate in this celebration that is entirely dedicated to the associative fabric of our community: a vital world, above all, a heritage of relationships that know how to find in sports, volunteerism and solidarity their desire to feel part of and at the service of our country. It is also a point of reference for young people, who through the many sports disciplines can spend their free time constructively, and for all families, from children to the elderly, with the activities that relate to learning, the transmission of knowledge between generations, and the memory and history of our territory.”
